Within the framework of the Second International Plum Congress 2023held on November 24 and 25 in General Alvear, Mendoza, Pietrelli Fruit stood out as a participant and actively contributed to key discussions on the plum industry. Organized by the Plum Industry Cluster of Mendoza, in collaboration with public and private institutions, the event brought together more than 250 participants in two technical days. Pietrelli Fruit's presence at the congress not only highlights its commitment to the industry but also its position as a key player in the plum sector in Argentina. The company's stand was a meeting point for authorities, growers and industry professionals. Pietrelli Fruit's sales team shared experiences, knowledge and established valuable connections during the event. The Congress focused on crucial issues related to the market and productivity of plum destined for the industry in the Mendoza region. Panel discussions were held with the participation of growers, industrialists, exporters and other prominent speakers. Argentina, along with the USA, Chile and France, is among the main plum producing countries, and this event provided an essential platform to address the challenges and opportunities of the sector. One of the highlights of the congress was the presentation of results by Cecilia Fernandez, research coordinator of the Rural Development Institute (IDR). Fernandez shared the achievements obtained through inter-institutional work and with the private sector, detailing progress from 2018 to date. The IDR received a well-deserved recognition from the Cluster for its commitment to the Competitive Improvement Plan, highlighting the importance of collaboration between institutions to boost the development of the sector. The Plum Industry Cluster of Mendoza, which groups around 2,500 producers, more than 100 drying establishments and some 20 exporting companies, played a crucial role in the organization of the event. INTA, another institution within the Cluster, contributed with technical workshops, and the nearly 20 stands present provided updated information for the sector, enriching the experience of the participants. The event focused not only on technical and productive aspects, but also on the challenges of the international market for plums from Mendoza. The Plum Exporters Committee of Mendoza (Cecim) presented relevant data on Argentine markets and world requirements. During the last decade, exports were mainly concentrated in Brazil, Russia, United States, Chile and Spain. Lucio Álvarez, Cecim's president, highlighted the importance of improving production in Argentina without increasing cultivated hectares. He emphasized the need to implement advanced technologies, improve irrigation systems and perfect pruning practices to increase production and quality without expanding the cultivated area. The Plum 2023 International Congress provided a vital space for collaboration, knowledge sharing and momentum towards excellence in the plum industry. The active participation of Pietrelli Fruit and other key players underscores the industry's continued commitment to innovation and development, laying the groundwork for a prosperous future in plum production and export in the Mendoza region.
